Senior Business Analyst in Controlling – Royalties

Location: Warsaw

Hybrid Model: minimum 3 days from the office in Warsaw per week

The GFS Commercial Controlling Organization is responsible for guarantee a Healthy Control environment across Europe, Middle East of Africa and Eurasia, through an efficient Month End Close process management, strong SOX and FCF controls framework, Balance Sheet Governance and Accurate financial statutory reporting (P&L and Balance Sheet).

Role Summary:

As GFS Royalties Business Analyst, you will be focus on where AZ has deals with third parties to develop and/or commercialise products. This is an area that has grown significantly over the past few years as AZ continues its journey to growth. Your role will be to ensure finance elements within these agreements run smoothly. You will need to understand the details of the contracts, understand both the AZ & third-party activities & also ensure that milestone payments, royalties are paid / received in line with the contract.

You will work closely with the finance business partners who carry out the post deal management activities for the contract, you will connect with the third party & build relationships with them, plus you will work with others in AZ Finance.

Core Deliverables:

Third Party Contract Support:

  • Reviewing and interpreting the financial clauses in signed contracts e.g. trigger of royalties thresholds, Net Sales definitions, trigger of commercial milestones, etc.
  • Generate detailed royalties statements in compliance with contractual terms for FD review
  • Review royalties statement from 3rd parties and flag any inconsistencies with the contracts
  • Address and resolve any disputes or discrepancies related to royalty calculations or payments
  • Collaborate with legal teams or relevant parties when necessary
  • Ensure that all royalty processes adhere to contractual agreements and legal requirements.
  • Prepare for and participate in audits as needed

Payments, Receipts & Underlying Accounting

  • Ensuring payments / receipts are complete & made on time according to the contract
  • Liaising with the relevant finance teams on queries & to ensure postings in underlying accounts are correct
  • Accruals reflect the contract activity
  • Balance sheet reconciliations & other financial controls are carried out
  • Utilizing the existing systems to analyse sales and revenue data, identifying trends and anomalies to ensure risks are mitigated and errors prevented
  • Predict future royalty income and expense based on historical data to help the manual accruals process

Finance Partnering & Improvements:

  • Working across multiple areas of AZ Finance to improve processes, controls & education e.g., GPPS (Global Products & Portfolio Strategy) Finance, GFO, Treasury & Banking Team
  • Carrying out post deal management activities & controls in conjunction with GPT FD
  • Continuously evaluating and improving the royalties reporting and payment/invoicing process for efficiency and accuracy with regulatory, governance, and internal processes related to M&A transactions.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Qualified finance professional with a degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent qualification such as CIMA or ACCA.
  • At least 5 years of R2R/GL/Controlling experience in a global organization.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with proficiency in SAP, Excel.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a capability to collaborate across teams and manage senior stakeholder relationships.
  • Fluent in English (both written and verbal).

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience within the pharmaceutical industry or similar innovations-driven sectors.
  • Familiarity with contractual agreements, licensing, and intellectual property rights.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects effectively.
